Dr. Thomas Gives Hundred of Free Eye Exams and Eyewear in Week-Long Mission to the Dominican Republic
Dr. Thomas just returned from his third mission trip to the Dominican Republic and has had some time to reflect on his mission experience. Dr. Thomas, Dr. Emer, Dr. Slana, and twenty volunteers spent a week in the Dominican where they were able to examine 970 patients and provide them with glasses, sunglasses, and eye medications when needed. Dr. Slana was able to perform 77 eye surgeries while they were there. Part of the group spent their time building a house that will sleep a family of seven.
The cost of the home was paid for entirely by contributions from mission travelers, their friends and parishioners. Thank you to everyone who went and made donations.
Dr. Thomas said, “The trip was rewarding for me to go with my daughter and to visit friends we have made over the years in the Dominican. In their poverty and simplicity, the beautiful people of the Dominican have been a living example to me of pure gratitude, patience, faith and hope.”
